In Loving Memory

STANLEY — Josephine “Josie” Zais, 90, of Stanley, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at the Homeplace, Stanley.She was born March 30, 1919, to the late August Sr. and Theresa (Gabauer) Kranig on a farm in Edson. Josie went to the primary school in Edson and assisted on the farm for numerous years.
On July 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to Peter Zais at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edson. The couple started their family in 1942 eventually raising six children. They lived in a variety of houses in the Edson/Stanley area and eventually moved to Stanley in 1955 living there until 2006.Josie was an avid fisher woman and outdoor person and was extremely happy when participating in these activities. Her fishing stories were never ending and the fish size always seemed to become bigger with each telling of the story. She could stand on the ice for hours on end, without gloves, and never complained about the cold or even lack of fish. The adventure was what made her happy! Josie will be deeply missed by her remaining family and friends.She is survived by: three sons, Donald (Lyn) of Marshfield, Roger of Springville, Texas and Duane (Yvonne) of Mosinee; one daughter Norma (Dan) Price of Marshfield; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Aggie Herman of Boyd and Margaret Pilgrim of Minneapolis, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Pete in 1993; her son Joseph “Buzz” in 1994; and daughter Mary in 1957.
