Almost Disaster

This past weekend, Father's Day weekend, Kris and I got a chance to see my mom and dad on Saturday and to also have a great lunch with Virgil and Mary on Sunday.
On Saturday my parents came over to try and solve our leaky outside faucet mystery... long story short-- while Kris was shutting off the water valve from the main water downstairs, the valve broke- leaving us with absolutely no water!!! Turns out the only emergency water number to call on the weekends is 911... ha! So, after talking to the emergency operator- she called for the on-call city worker to come and inspect and hopefully turn off our water main in the yard- so we could fix the valve and all would be good to go... except... that after an hour or so of her trying to reach our water main valve thing-a-ma-jig, she couldn't. Her next statement was that the only thing left was for us to hire a contractor to come with a backhoe and dig up our front lawn to reach the valve... (This while our house is for sale: as a reminder.) OH- and it's completely our responsibility- not the city's.
Really long story, real short- is that Kris stayed home on Monday, we had no water for 3 days, and the Foreman for the city eventually got our water turned off- a plumber was able to come and fix our valve downstairs--- and TA DAH... we've got water again!!!
We are super thankful to not have the large crater of a hole in our front lawn!!!

That is terrible! But so great that you didn't have to dig up the yard. That was the first thing we thought of - oh my gosh, they are selling their house! Glad it worked out, even if it was a giant pain!
